This year the Bayou Bash Relay will be a BCRR only event, due to limitations with obtaining a city permit for a full-scale race. This year's event will be held in TC Jester Park at 4 PM on Saturday, April 30.
The 4 person x 2 mile relay will be held at T.C. Jester Park.
Immediately following the relay, BCRR will host a family picnic with members asked to BYOB, BYOfood, and BYOchairs. BCRR will provide water, Gatorade, and snacks.
The BCRR Board kindly requests that you attend this event following receipt of the COVID vaccination or a recent negative test to minimize the risk to yourself and others. Wearing a mask is still strongly encouraged when not running, eating, or drinking.
To join a relay team, please contact the team captains (TBA below) and provide your approximate mile pace. The relay is a 4-person X 2 miles running in a single loop. No pace is too slow or too fast! The teams will be randomly selected the weekend of the race, so be prepared for last minute strategizing!
If you are unable to run, we will need a few volunteers as road guards and manning the water stations. So please let our Team Captains know if you are one of the good souls willing to volunteer.
Even if you're not participating in the relay, please feel free to join us for the BCRR family picnic!

Apres Run ...Every Wednesday evening we meet at Rice University for Sprints and Spirits. The group meets at 6:15 pm (run leaves at 6:30 pm sharp!).The Bayou Run (6.6 miles) is the usual route but there are shortcuts and alternative routes as well. All levels are welcome. And the best part is the cheap beer at Valhalla , a delightfully casual and economical watering hole, afterwards. There is always a group that goes out for dinner as well. Come on out! It's a great way to break up the stressful work week.

Rice Run now 6:40 PM
The Wednesday evening run around Rice University now starts at 6:40 PM. We start assembling at 6:30 PM (not before) and run at 6:40 PM. If you prefer to run earlier please do not park at the church.

Next Big Thing: In March adventures in running continue with the HARRA Spring Series. First up is the Law Week Fun Run 8K on March 11, followed by the Bayou City Classic 10K on March 18. BCRR members always make a strong showing at these events. Join us for the fun!

Law Week Fun Run - March 11 marked the return of the HARRA Spring Series with the Law Week Fun Run 8K. BCRR club members crushed it with over a dozen members placing in the top tiers of their respective age groups. Great job BCRR! Click here for official site.

Another Successful BCC - March 18 was a beautiful day for a run, and made for great fun at the 40th anniversary of the Bayou City Classic 10k Race and family friendly 5K Fun Run & Walk. The event supports Houston parks and is "part 2" of the HARRA Spring Series. BCRR members made a strong showing in both speed and style - winning awards for fast feet and cool costumes. Learn more here. Special shout out to all the volunteers that donated their time and energy to make this race a Houston favorite!

50th Annual LP Run - The oldest race in Texas, the LP Run, was held Saturday evening (4/29) at Rice University. This unusual event has participants run around-and-around as many RPMs (laps) as you like before the 33 1/3 minutes time limit expires. As usual, BCRR members proved tough competition and many members won recognition. See details here.

Dash N' Splash - Back in June members enjoyed a dash along the bayou and then splash in the pool of a gracious BCRR member, and we did it again in July. On July 31 after the traditional Mello Monday run, the gang was treated to swimming, burgers and brews at Sue and Alan's house. See Facebook page for the pics.

The owners of the lot need it for Ash Wednesday services. BCRR members can honor the request (and keep us in good standing with our host) by using street parking or Rice parking lots.

PRESIDENT - Andrew Young
I am a chemist with the Dow Chemical Company. I grew up in Minneapolis and I most recently lived in Champaign, Illinois. I am 30 years old and I have been running for about 16 years now. I have been a member of BCRR since 2012, when I moved to Houston. For me, BCRR has been a phenomenal group of people for both running and socializing and it has done a lot to smooth my transition to a new city. I would like to continue to serve on the board because I want to give back to the club and to help it become an even better organization than it already is.

TREASURER - Peter Griffiths
I started distance running in October, 2011 (after signing up for a couple of 5K races). Six months after that, I moved to Houston, but I did not want to stop running. So as soon as I arrived in Houston I started looking for a running club. I found and joined BCRR the very next week. To this day I still consider it one of the best decisions I've made. I'm running for the board for the opportunity to help contribute to making this another great year for the club. Thank you.
