organizationally-challenged race. The best part is
a trophy festooned with a giant mosquito for
each 1st place age group
winner.

Chevron Houston Marathon and Amoco Half Marathon
Registration
begins Tuesday, July 27 (tomorrow) at 6:00 a.m.
CST and closes Thursday, August 12 at 11:59 a.m.
CST (two week window): Entry is
complicated this year. Here are the several ways
to get a spot this year:
- The Lottery - You must
register during the 2 week
window for random selection for
either race. Details
- The "HARRA 500" Exemption from
the Lottery. You should have been
notified today if you got one of these
guaranteed slots. I believe you
must register within the 2 week
window. (applies to
marathon only)
- Finishers of 5-9
Houston
Marathons are exempt from
the lottery, but
must register during the two
week window. For this exemption you
need to be on this list and
you must register using the exact same
name as on the list. (applies to marathon
only)
- Official Houston Marathon
Veterans (10 or more completed Houston
Marathons) are also exempt from the
lottery and may register up to
November 8, Details
- Charity - Either fund
raising through a "Run
for a Reason Charity
" or by direct donation of
$350 or more as a "Heroes
Charity Registration" will guarantee entry to
either race.
- VIP Registration: A
few spots reserved for really
big pockets ($1000 - $1500). (sign up after July

Volunteers needed by Watermill Express-
The production team for
Extreme Makeover Home Edition is
coming to Houston this week. Read about it in
today's Houston
Chronicle.
Watermill Express, the company
that provides water for most of our races. was
contacted by the Mayor's Office of Special Events
to coordinate set-up and delivery of Watermill
Express purified drinking WATER and ICE for the
project. They are looking for
volunteers to set up and Man THREE Hydration
Stations. 1) For about 250 workers on site at a
time and they will be working 24/7 Starting
next Monday, July 26th-31st 2) Another for up
to 200 spectators expected per hour from 8am to
8pm. 3) The show's production crew.
Volunteers will be needed as
follows: From 7:00
a.m., Monday, July 26 until around 12 Noon
Sunday, August 1, 2010. People needed for
the following time shifts each
day: 1st)
8am-Noon 2nd) Noon to
4 3rd)
4pm-8pm. 4th) 8pm-Midnight

information on how you can contribute to this
project.

And the Usual ...
(Running with us for the
first time? We recommend attending one of our
major group runs on either Wed. evening or Sunday
Morning)
Wednesday Mornings: Speed
Work. The fun starts at 5:30 am on
Wednesday at Sugar Hill and Pine Shadows (one
block east of Tanglewood; from 610 take Woodway,
turn left on Sage and pull into the parking lot at
St. Martin's Church (on the left). Distances
and workout vary from week to week. All paces
welcome.
Wednesday Evening at
Valhalla ...... We meet at Rice
University for Sprints and Spirits. The group
meets at 5:45 pm for a tempo run at 6:00 pm of 5-7 miles.
All levels are welcome. And the best part is the
cheap beer at Valhalla
afterwards. We meet and park in the front
parking lot of the First Christian
Church-School off of Rice Blvd (see map).
Sunday Morning Long Run
... Regular
Long Run. We meet at the 0
marker at Memorial Park (in front of the Tennis
Center on the cinder trail) and leave at 6:30 am
sharp. Distance is 10 to 12 to 20 miles. Breakfast
afterwards at a nearby restaurant. For more info
