Name: Tom Radosevich

Birthday: 3/24/1953

Years running at the time of profile: Almost every day, since June, 1984.

Occupation: Attorney

How many miles a week do you run? About fifty - with speedwork twice a week, usually.

How did you come to join Bayou City?: Somebody introduced me to John Phillips after the 1997 HBA 8K, but he could not have been less interested (I'm not pretty!). Nevertheless, I started showing up for the 6:30 River Oaks on Sunday routine, and fell in with the characters there. That tough hairstylist; the tall, dark, handsome, nice guy (Does it matter if he's rich?); that guy who is still living in 1962; the then-current Pres, who trains nine miles, and then runs an ultra...

My proudest running accomplishment is: Sneaking under three hours, at Austin 2003, with Doug Storey coaching me live, and Kathy Molitor on the cellular telephone back here in Houston. I fell deeply in love with two people that day.

My favorite training run is: Are you kidding? Houston Fit organizers read this stuff! Ask me privately and I'll invite you along. You'll have to be blindfolded for the ice-water stops, though.

My favorite race is: The Whatever-They-Are-Calling-It-This-Year Houston Marathon, which, of course, is always perfectly produced ... not counting the weather!

My best distance is: 25K, I suppose. I bog down at 16 - 18, and then either get a strong second wind about 20, or crash about then with calf cramps ... my kingdom, for the cure!

I run because: I tell my Mother and my nieces and my nephews that it's the being outdoors, with friends, that is so nice about it ... but to my ellow-fay unners-ray, I must confess ... it's the igh-hay.

My philosophy for life is: Try!

My next goal is: A fourth sub-3-hour marathon ... Doug? Kathy?

Favorite training food: Beans and rice... with a St. Arnold's or two.

When I'm running I think about: Everything ... the bad stuff doesn't seem so bad ... and the good stuff seems even better (see answer above). Beer works the same way!

The best running advice I could give would be: Keep at it ... and don't take it - or yourself - too seriously.

People would be surprised if they knew I: Think my truck is stupid.

The top thing on my dream list is: Growing old gracefully, and very slowly.

If I could have been anything, besides my current occupation it would be: Being the guy who owns the bait shop ... or better yet, being that guy's son. Have you ever been to northeastern Minnesota?

Other hobbies besides running: Sailing, skiing, politics, classical music, talking about myself.

I would love to spend the day with: Either and/or both of my parents. If you ever decide to run the Duluth, Minnesota, Marathon, let me know, it starts at their tavern. You will understand why I choose them. They are the first best thing that has ever happened to me.

The most embarrasing thing that has happened to me is: Hmmm ... either A) Paul Holzhauer cruising past me with that big grin of his at Mile 24 of Duluth 1998, as I could barely walk, with terrible calf cramps, or B) Mikki Hebl, Houston 1999, the same cramps for me, but she, obviously hot and tired, too, but still going, asking "Help me! Tom?" ... hoping for some good advice ... but I could only reply, "Hey, you're still running..." This was right after my office partner's crotchety 90-year-old father, who lives at Bayou Bend, had just yelled "Hey, Tom, you were supposed to be here an hour ago!"

The most profound thing that has happened in my life is: Watching my family's and my friends' children grow. I'm so envious of you who have them. Let's hope that we leave a world for them as wonderful as the world we got to grow up in. Please join me in a pledge that we baby-boomers will limit the next generation's SSI deductions to no more than 60% of their paychecks, for our social security payments. God bless you.
