Birthday: 03/02/1962
Years running: 2 years at the time of profile(6/02)
Occupation: Assistant professor, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
How many miles a week do you run? 30-40 mi
How did you come to join Bayou City?: I was looking at websites for local running clubs and I came across one that ran and drank beer and I thought to myself, "how bad can that be?"
My proudest running accomplishment is: My first marathon! Never in a million years would I have imagined that I would ever run a marathon.
My favorite training run is: 10 miles in River Oaks or any long run with April and company, where we can stop to eat chips and drink pop along the way.
My favorite race is: I haven't been running long enough to have a favourite, but in Houston, any race in November through February would qualify!
My best distance is: 10 miles
I run because: I love being outside, with friends. When I've had a bad day or week at work, all my troubles dissipate when I start running.
My philosophy for life is: Keep your head down and keep moving forward
My next goal is: To break 4 hours for a marathon (if I could beat 3:50 I'd do cartwheels!)
Favorite training food: When I run, I have an appetite for just about everything (no one ever told me that running makes you hungry all the time), but I really like homemade soup of any kind.
When I'm running I think about: When I run by myself, I often plan my day and troubleshoot my experiments, but what I enjoy most is running with friends and chatting about nothing in particular.
The best running advice I could give would be: If you set reasonable goals for yourself and take it slowly, you can do just about anything.
People would be surprised if they knew I: I can't think of anything for this one
I guess I'm not very surprising
The top thing on my dream list: First, to own my own house and then to see the world!
If I could have been anything, besides my current occupation it would be: I really do like the type of work I do so I might try another field of science. My dad and I used to go to our local science center and look at the moon, planets and stars through their monstrous telescope, so the space program has always interested me. NASA does some amazing science.
I would love to spend the day with: Good friends and family.
Other hobbies besides running: Baking, watching old movies (especially musicals and hokey mysteries like the Maltese falcon), pottery
and now I have the opportunity to do more travelling which I really like to do.
The most embarrassing thing that has happened to me is: that's between me and my mice
The most profound thing that has happened in my life: Losing both my parents to cancer.
