Age: 37
Years Running: Running has been my favorite exercise all of my life, I did my first "fun run" in 1988(Law week run), Almost a "daily runner" since '94 (*with exceptions of injuries)
Occupation: High School Mathematics Teacher
How many miles a week do you run? About 30
How did you come to join Bayou City? I met some Bayou City Runners after a run (Around a keg) Need I say more?
My proudest running accomplishment is: When I finished my first marathon, (Houston "96) I was so scared of not being able to finish that I didn't tell ANYONE about it until AFTER I finished!
My favorite training run: I love the surface at Memorial Park, I am also being introduced to various River Oaks Routes and have enjoyed them.
My favorite race is : International Friendship Run. It starts in Reynosa, Mexico and finishes in McAllen, Texas.
My best distance is: I may not be fast, but I can do a long run. I like a 10 mile run.
I run because: I ran with my 9 year old son the other day. He reminded me that running is for FUN. You jump up to touch the leaves, you laugh, you go out of your way to step on a really big rock or chase a squirrel, but you have FUN.
My philosophy for life is: Appreciate and cherish what you have, Health , Family and Friends are priceless.
My next goal is : I am going to do the Houston Marathon '00, but I might be tempted to try the 50K in Huntsville in December, I hear it makes a great LONG training run.
When I'm running I think about: WATER, My next run, WATER, my last run, WATER, why am I running now, WATER, why is it that beer sounded so bad at 6:00 this morning but all of a sudden it sounds great at 9:00 a.m.? WATER
The best running advice I could give would be: Listen to your body."Healthy Runs" are more important than logging miles ( I was out with an injury Aug '97 to Aug '98 I never want to go through that again!!)
People would be surprised if they knew I : have done right at 100 fun runs/races. I guess I "blend in" in a crowd. I have heard that maybe I should carpool with Larry Lindeen?
The top thing on my dream list is: to travel Europe ( with a tall, dark, handsome man, o.k. let me dream )
Other hobbies besides running: I rarely miss a Rockets game (did I mention that that tall dark handsome man also needs to have season tickets) , I play on an informal softball team, I like to cycle, I enjoy doing math puzzles
I would love to spend the day with: My mother
The most embarrassing thing that has happened in my life is : I went on a first date once after running at Memorial park. After showering at the park, I noticed that I didn't bring the proper undergarments with me. I had a nice dress, but had to decide to wear a sweaty jogbra or go without. I'm not telling!!
The most profound thing that has happened in my life is: Being able to have precious time in this life with my two children. David, 9 and Savannah , 8
Extra note: Although I'm not a speed demon,. I love to run. When I send in my race results to April, it is out of amazement, not bragging. I see other runners from Bayou City win at these races, but they don't send in their results. I'd love to see more people share their results!!
