How many miles
a week do you run? If you have to ask, you don't want to
know
How did you
come to join Bayou City?: Blame Cheryl Verlander--she really
just wanted my daughter,Traci, to join.
My proudest
running accomplishment is: Any day when I have a planned early
run, and: it is very hot and humid, I did not get enough sleep, it
is raining, or I am sore and tried. Then, I get up anyway, lace up
my shoes and run. Any day that happens (which is a lot), I feel
proud.
My favorite
training run is: Allen Parkway
My favorite
race is: Boston Marathon
My best
distance is: Either a 5K or 50 miler
I run because:
Mentally and physically, it is what I need.
My philosophy
for life is: Do what makes you happy. Little else
matters.
My next goal
is: Leadville Trail 100 (finished
2004)
Favorite
training food: Pasta
When I'm
running I think about: WHAT AM I DOING OUT HERE RUNNING IN THIS
HEAT? Then I remember an upcoming race, and I think of
it.
The best
running advice I could give would be: Run for your own reasons.
Accomplish what you want, not what others think you should
do.
People would be
surprised if they knew I: have 3 grandchildren
The top thing
on my dream list: See Traci make the US Women's World Cup team.
( Traci went to Rice
University on scholarship, competed for Rice in soccer, and is
currently completing a 6 year, fast track combined bachelor-MD
program in conjunction with Baylor College of Medicine. Mark was
very proud)
If I could have
been anything, besides my current occupation it would be: Comic
singer (Fulfilled his dream by writing,
directing and producing "Enron the Musical", which premiered in
Houston and received international attention.)
Other hobbies
besides running: Working on my house
The most
embarrassing thing that has happened to me is: When I was in 7th
grade, I was a halfback on the football team. I received a pitch out
and was running in the clear for a touchdown, when suddenly, I
tripped in the grass and fell.
The most
profound thing that has happened in my life: My last
