Name: Joyce Hockensmith (Boytim)

Age: 3 scores minus 7 ( as of 2-6-01 )

Years running at time of profile(2001): XXI

Occupation: Retired after 26 years teaching elementary school.

How many miles a week do you run? Plus or Minus 40

How did you come to join Bayou City?: My fiancee, Ray Boytim, said this was the place to be!

My proudest running accomplishment is: Completing a marathon in all 50 states plus DC two times.

My favorite training run is: Cool Weather...running from home to Meyer Park with loops in the park and back. Warm Weather...running on my treadmill watching Live With Regis, The View, or CNBC

My favorite race is: Hoosier Marathon in Fort Wayne, Indiana since I was one of the founders and race directors

My best distance is: Marathon or Beyond.

I run because: It gets the cobwebs out of my lungs, keeps me focused on maintaining a healthy diet, and keeps the fat cells at bay.

My philosophy for life is: There are no guarantees, so have no regrets.

My next goal is: To get back to marathoning after being off for the better part of this year, and adding to my total of 170 marathons.

Favorite training food: Jalapenos.  They are loaded with vitamin C and keep the sludge out of the digestive system.

When I'm running I think about: World peace and the significance of life.   Well, close, but it's probably more like what I'm going to eat when I finish running.

The best running advice I could give would be: Enjoy yourself.  If you don't, who will?

People would be surprised if they knew I: Have 5 beautiful granddaughters.

The top thing on my dream list is: Become a published writer.  I would say become a world class runner, but that would truly be a dream.

If I could have been anything, besides my current occupation it would be: To be a concert pianist

Other hobbies besides running: Crossword puzzles, Seeing movies with Ray, Writing, Reading, Scrapbooking, Visiting my granddaughters in Indiana, Playing the piano.

I would love to spend the day with: J. K.  Rowling (Author of the Harry Potter books)

The most embarrasing thing that has happened to me is: Coming from Indiana to Houston for the SunMart, and having to call Paula Boone to borrow a running bra.

The most profound thing that has happened in my life is: Finding my perfect mate after more than 50 years on life's roller coaster, proving that you should never give up on your dreams.
