BCRR Club Officers are elected annually for one year terms at the BCRR
Banquet/General Meeting held on the last Wed. of
May.
President
Kathi
Mahon
Like many people, I came to Houston for work
and now love it as my second hometown. One of the ways my life
here has been enriched is that I started running and subsequently
“fell in” with the BCRR running community. BCRR is a truly unique
running club. We
have members who are local elite as well as
recreational runners - everyone finds common ground
in running.
It is so difficult to meet, much less befriend,
people outside
one’s work these days. I have made so many great friends through
Bayou City that I might never have met… and my running has
improved too! I owe a great deal to this
Club.
I have been a member of BCRR for
seven years, and have been involved in club organization and
functions during the last few years. Specifically I have:
•
Served on the BCRR Board as a Member at large for
two years
(2006-2008). (continued)
Vice
President
Lara Allen
Wow. What can I say?
I’m honored and flattered to have been nominated for the position
of BCRR Vice President. For the last several years, BCRR has been
a very important part of my life. I have gained so very much (both
athletically and personally) as a member of this wonderful group.
The friendship, mentoring, and encouragement that I so frequently
receive from this group has meant more to me than I can ever
really put into words.
As someone who
manages a small outpatient counseling practice, I have many
characteristics that will benefit the BCRR board; including being
a good team player, problem solver, crisis and business manager. I
can also employ time management skills where
necessary.
My prior board experience
as a Member At Large was
a very
rewarding and educational experience. I learned a great deal about
the "behind the scenes” tasks that are needed to make races,
scheduled runs, parties and other social activities more enjoyable
for our members. It was great to contribute to the wonderful
things offered by our club. With that being said, as a board
member I will do my best to work hard and give back to the group
that has so generously given to me. Thanks Road Runners!
Secretary
Avi Moss
I’ve been a member of BCRR for several years
and would gladly give back to the club in any way I can. Through
my years in the club, I have gained tremendous friends and am
honored to be considered for the position of secretary. I have ten
years running experience doing
races of all distances. I
participate in many area races, run in Memorial park, do club runs
and actively promote Bayou City to all runners. I currently share
web guru duties with Kathi Mahon. I have also created the club
blog. Additionally, I’ve volunteered for the club doing many
duties including BCRR race tent preparation, guard duty, and have
contributed articles for the newsletter. As secretary I will
do my best to uphold the traditions of the club and keep Bayou
City the great club that it is today! . Just let me know!
Treasurer
Patrick
Flaherty
I am the current BCRR Treasurer and am
running for a second term. It has been my good fortune to be a
member of BCRR. I have benefited from the friendships that I have
made and all of the great times I have experienced. I am
appreciative that you elected me
as BCRR Treasurer for the past
club year and would like to serve in that role for the 2009 - 2010
club year.
I am a CPA by profession. The position doesn’t need
to be held by a CPA, but I do know a debit from a credit. I am
looking forward to another great year for the Bayou City Road
Runners.
Members at Large
Margaret (Sam)
Pace
Hello, fellow Road Runners.
For those of
you who don’t know me, I’m Sam Pace and I’ve been a member of BCRR
for a little over a year - about the same length of time I’ve been
running. You can usually find me at the Wednesday
and Sunday
runs, HARRA races and always at Valhalla on Wednesday nights. I’m
particularly fond of Friday night happy hours as
well.
I moved to Houston from Austin a
little over two years ago and currently work as a postdoctoral
researcher at Baylor College of Medicine, specializing in breast
cancer. I initially turned to running as a means of releasing some
of the stresses that accompany a career in science. In addition to
running, I’ve recently taken up biking and swimming in the hope of
adding a triathlon or two to my racing experiences. (continued)
Sheila
Ramamurthy
I have been a member of BCRR for
approximately one year. I
moved here from Michigan in 2006
where I received my Mechanical Engineering degree from the
University of Michigan. I currently work at Germanischer Lloyd as
a pipeline engineer, but I get my joy from Bayou
City!
I arrived in Houston knowing
only two people and having no family here. It was a struggle, at
first, to find new friends. During this time, I would run at
Memorial Park regularly. One of those two people suggested that I
look up running clubs in Houston,
since I was spending so much
time running. It would be a way to meet new people and find new
routes to run. So I went about searching for running clubs online
and found BCRR. A 6 mile run and cheap beer after sounded like a
match made in Heaven. I joined in July, 2007 and have
been a
member since. I finally feel like I have a group of real friends
and I feel I have become a better runner.
It’s time for me to give back to
BCRR. I want to contribute my organization skills and my running
zeal to the Club as a Member at Large.
Neeraj
Rohilla
I have I have been running with BCRR for
little more than two years. I am a PhD student in Chemical
Engineering at Rice University. Before coming to the U.S. in the
Fall
of 2004, I lived in various parts of India. At Rice
University, I have led many organizations. Currently, I am the
department representative for the Graduate Student Association
(GSA). I was Vice President of the Indian Students at Rice
(2005-06), Vice President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers
(SPE) student chapter (2007-08) and the Rice Cricket Club
(2007-08).
Serving as Member At Large
on the BCRR Board this past year has been a very enriching and
satisfying experience. Regular folks at Valhalla and Races will
recognize me as the “camera guy” requesting them to pose for
pictures. While on the BCRR Board, I have learned valuable lessons
in organization and co-ordination of club activities. I focused on
recruiting new young members for the club and this will continue
to be my focus this year if I am fortunate enough to be
re-elected. (continued)
